Sheriff Harriman began with the Sheriff’s Office on June 28, 1997 as a Deputy Sheriff. He is originally from New Hartford, Iowa and graduated from Dike-New Hartford High School in 1993.

Following high school he served for 6-years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a member of field artillery unit based in Waterloo, Iowa where he attained the rank of Sergeant.

In July 1998 Sheriff Harriman was appointed Sheriff following the resignation of his predecessor. He was elected to the Office of Sheriff in a special election in November 1998 and was re-elected by the citizens of Ida County in 2000; 2004; 2008 and 2012.

Sheriff Harriman earned a bachelor’s degree in History from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1997, and earned a degree in Mortuary Science from Des Moines Area Community College in 2010.

Sheriff Harriman encourages his employees to advance themselves through education and training, and ensures that each employee in the office receives advanced training each year.

He resides in Holstein, Iowa with his wife Leah, who is a special education teacher with the OA-BCIG community school district in Ida Grove and his two sons Cade,11 and Carson, 8, both of who attend Ridgeview Community schools.

Sheriff Harriman is proud to serve the citizens of Ida County as their 20th sheriff. He is humbled by the opportunity to serve the people of Ida County and looks forward to continuing this service into the future.

During his off-duty time Sheriff Harriman serves as a member on several civic organizations. He is a member of the Holstein American Legion; Ida Grove Kiwanis; Battle Creek Lions as well as the Alpine Masonic Lodge in Holstein.

In addition, he and his family are members of the Holstein United Methodist Church where the Sheriff has served as a Sunday school teacher and leader of the Senior high youth group.

Sheriff Harriman also officiates high school football, basketball, baseball and softball throughout the school year and in the summer. He also volunteers to coach his boys youth baseball and football teams.
